Ben Waites’ AGT audition is worth a million Golden Buzzers

‘America’s Got Talent’ specializes in feel-good stories that portray the triumph of the human spirit. The contestants’ stories are even more impressive than their talent at times.

Ben Waites’ audition certainly didn’t leave a dry eye in the room. Ben rolls on stage in his wheelchair because he is paralyzed. He is from Nashville, Tennessee, but he was born in Louisiana.

Ben tells the judges he is a gospel singer and a vocal coach. He has chosen to sing the Cyndi Lauper hit ‘True Colors.’ Simon Cowell asks, ‘Why that song?’

Ben tells Simon his reasoning, saying, ‘I believe this song speaks to everyone, no matter your background, race, religion, age. I feel it just conveys a message of hope.’

Heidi asks, ‘Did you bring anyone special here with you today?’ He says he brought his wife, mom, and grandmother. Simon asks, ‘Do the people you coach know you auditioned?’ Ben says, ‘No, cause when I’m with them, it’s all about them.’ Heidi says, ‘And now it is all about you! Good luck.’

Ben performs the song with excellence and pure emotion. He sings, ‘I see your true colors shining through. I see your true colors, and that’s why I love you. So don’t be afraid to let them show. Your true colors, true colors are beautiful like a rainbow.’

In the end, Judge Sofia starts to cry. All the judges and the audience give him a standing ovation. Ben’s audition is a memorable and emotional moment on ‘AGT.’
