U.S. Navy midshipmen gather to create hilarious award-winning music video… ?VIDEO

“Every person in front of and behind the camera was a midshipman, and our budget was a whopping zero dollars.” Annapolis, Maryland. The United States Naval Academy is located here. And while our Marines and Sailors are not studying, training and defending the country, they are resting to recharge their body and soul.

However, for former Midshipman 1st Class Rylan Tuohy, the break is different from how other people define it. He gathered around 60 people, including his fellow Marines and Sailors, the jazz/swing band Trident, and the duty van, and filmed a parody music video about the city of Annapolis. “It’s all run by midshipmen,” Rylan told the Navy Times. “Every person in front of and behind the camera was a midshipman, and our budget was a whopping zero dollars.” This is Naptown Funk.

Rylan and his partners rewrote the lyrics of Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” and renamed it Naptown Funk. To complete the video, he used his Canon 5D digital camera and another midshipman’s drone. They closed Maryland Avenue, a paved road filled with shops and restaurants frequented by tourists and locals.
