VIDEO: Blake Shelton pays tribute to Elvis Presley with a rendition of “Suspicious Minds”
Carrie Underwood and Darius Rucker, two more country music heavyweights, also appeared on the show. There is no shortage of Elvis Presley cover songs, but country music singer Blake Shelton hit the nail on the head with a version of Suspicious Minds at a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll in 2019.
Last February, a host of musical talents gathered for a special event to honor Elvis for his achievements in the music industry. Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Darius Rucker, Keith Urban, John Legend, Ed Sheeran and more performed at the tribute, according to Billboard.
Shelton took center stage as performer and host. In addition to a rousing version of Suspicious Minds, Shelton sang If I Can Dream, Trouble, Guitar Man and more.
Shelton’s choice to sing Suspicious Minds was no surprise. The song was a huge hit in the country music scene and many artists covered it. One of the most successful covers was Dwight Yoakam’s in 1992. Blake’s girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, sang the song with her band No Doubt as a tribute to Elvis Presley in 2002. We’re sure the cover of the iconic ballad by Shelton did Stefano a favor.
