What does labor pain feel like? Apparently, for South Dakota mom Dannette Giltz, it feels just like kidney stones. But in the bizarre yet true entirely story, a trip to the ER revealed the mom was actually giving birth to unexpected triplets!
God had already blessed Dannette and Austin Giltz with a son and daughter. And the couple truly thought they were done having kids.
But an “urgent” trip to the emergency room resulted in the surprise of their lives!
When Dannette Giltz of South Dakota started experiencing pain and cramping, she chalked it up to kidney stones.
“I started getting pains, I figured it was kidney stones because I’ve went [sic] through them before,” she said.
As the pain increased, Dannette headed to the hospital. She was expecting doctors to suggest surgery to remove kidney stones. So, it came as a complete shock when they told Dannette she was experiencing labor pain because she was about to give birth to twins!
As doctors moved forward with a c-section, there was another surprise in store.
“It was quiet, we thought they were done,” Dannette recalled. “And then she’s like, ‘well we need another blanket. . . there’s [sic] three babies in here — there’s [sic] triplets.”
The incredible blessing certainly came as a surprise for the couple. Here Dannette thought she had kidney stones when all along it was labor pain for triplets she didn’t even know she was carrying!
“You don’t ever see triplets being conceived naturally, let alone going 34 weeks without knowing,” Dannette says.
Dannette gave birth to two girls and a boy, naming them Gypsy, Nikki, and Blaze.
She and her husband, Austin, are still in shock over growing from a family of four to a family of seven overnight. But for their 10-year-old son, Ronnie, the unexpected triplets are an answered prayer.
“I wished for a baby brother,” Ronnie says. “And I wished for like two sisters for my little sister because she always wanted a little sister.”
Thankfully, after the labor pain surprise, friends and family came together to help get the couple ready for their unexpected triplets. And Dannette and Austin are extremely grateful for those who are showing them support.
“It’s amazing in a small town how many people will come together,” Dannette says.
And certainly, the Lord will continue to provide for this special family.
