Guitarist (or guitarist) – a person who plays the guitar. Guitarists can play various instruments in the guitar family such as classical guitars, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and bass guitars. Some guitarists accompany themselves on the guitar by singing or playing the harmonica, or both.

A guitarist may use any of several methods of sounding the guitar, including finger picking, depending on the type of strings used (nylon or steel), as well as finger picking or guitar picks made of bone, horn, plastic, metal, felt, leather, or paper, and also melodic flat and finger picking.

A guitarist may also use a variety of note and chord selection techniques, including fingering, plucking, barre (finger resting on many or all strings on a specific fret), and guitar slides, usually made of glass or metal. These left and right hand techniques can be mixed in performance.
